Claptrap, Drivel & Folderol

Behold : A playlist offering samples of the more eclectic and experimental side of (vintage) Jazz. These songs were all ripped from my ever-growing Jazz vinyl collection and when I attempted to find some  other word (besides Jazz, since many associate the genre with cheesy elevator music), I was quite surprised to discover this on Wikipedia :

"Synonyms of jazz

balderdash, baloney (also boloney), beans, bilge, blarney, blather, bosh, bull [slang], bunk, bunkum (or buncombe), claptrap, drivel, folderol (also falderal), folly, foolishness, fudge, hogwash, hokeypokey, hokum, hooey, humbug, humbuggery, malarkey (also malarky), moonshine, nonsense, piffle, poppycock, rot, rubbish, senselessness, silliness, stupidity, tommyrot, trash, trumpery, twaddle"

How strange to realize that an entire genre of brilliant music is collectively gathered under this giant umbrella of a term that more or less means "nonsense"!

Astounding ...

As always,

Sinister Seven Inches

I have a very random collection of 7 inch vinyl records and they more or less fall into 3 groups:

A. 7 inch singles that my older sisters and brothers bought & I grew up listening to as a kid

B. raunchier punk 7 inches that I purchased as a teenager / college kid

c. cheesy older 7 inches that my step father didn't want anymore because he no longer owned a turntable.

The 'sinister' 7 inches included in this play list mainly come from category B. When I purchased them, a vinyl revival revolution of sorts was in full-swing and each was bought with a sense of thrill and excitement. Some had fan club addresses hidden inside them, others had small xeroxed zines waiting to be read. I stored them all in cool 45rpm record boxes, like tiny treasure chests and I'm proud that I've kept most of these in pristine condition.

I'll probably make several more compilations from these precious 7 inches.

As always,

*** ENJOY ***
