Bad Muffin's Up Mix Mash - Mash Up Mix

This mashup mixtape was created for you by the lovely and enticingly creative graphic/web designer, artist and musician Beth Ragland, aka Bad Muffin ... And what a thrilling mixtape it is! 4 songs into the 1st listen, I found my mouth gaping open, in total awe of just how insanely perfect some songs fit so snuggly and perfectly into one another!

I asked Beth what inspired her to compile all of these wonderful mashups and she explained :

"So here's how it started: It was my good friend Kathryn Steele's
birthday and I wanted to make her a mix as a present. I remembered
how her and I had talked about the new Girl Talk record and certain
mash-ups that we enjoyed. Then I decided that it might be fun to find
a bunch of mash-ups for her birthday mix. So it began. I sifted
through dozens of tracks to find the ones I thought she would enjoy.

There are DJs that do nothing but mash-ups and then there are random
people who just decide to try one. They are from all over the globe.
Mash-ups seem to have blown up in the past few years from the
popularity of youtube, music blogs and a more accessible internet.
They seem to have evolved from the usual club DJs transitioning
between 2 records to a more digital effort of finding 2 or more audio
tracks that are similar in chord progression / melody / structure /
rhythm and digitally editing them to create a new song or mash-up.
There are lot of misfires out there. Some songs just don't go
together.

Chris and I tried to make one. It's not as easy as you might think.
In fact, we gave up really early. We could tell that it would be
pretty time consuming and require better software than garageband.
Plus, I never quite figured how to solo vocals. There is a method
that I heard of that seemed a bit over my head. You can kind of hear
what seems to be that method in some of these tracks - it seems that
there is some sound degradation when using that method.

It is very interesting how many pop songs are so alike in so many
ways. Some mash ups are hilarious, and some are amazing and
beautiful."

Thanks, Beth ... This playlist is truly one of the best ones to grace the Psychic Tuesday airwaves! The tracklist and some amazing mashup videos follow ... ENJOY!!! =
