To be perfectly honest, I actually made this playlist specifically to be played at the opening ... not only does it sort of indirectly "explain" some of the pieces and the theme of the show, but the paintings themselves were actually titled after either the titles of some of the songs or some of the songs' lyrics ... so there you have it! Try to come out and we'll hang out and all that! haha
Here is the flyer I threw together for the event:
And here is a very tiny "sneak peak" of the show:
Come to Crestwood Coffee THIS COMING SATURDAY to see the entire show!!!
On a completely different note, my softball team, Bad News Bearons have been suffering from a terrible streak of bad luck ... I'm not talking about losing games (that's nothing new! haha), I'm talking about 5 games in a row being CANCELLED either because of rain, thunder & lightning or from the other team for one reason or another forfeiting (which means a win for us, but still!) ... we have not played a game in a month now!!! AAAAARGH!
Anywaaaay, so we're SUPPOSED to play tonite (at George Ward Park field 3, 8:30P) IF we're lucky enough! Please light a candle and pray to who/whatever you worship and help break the curse! No joke! We wanna play ball SOOOO BAD!!!
In other news, Walker got on a cool radio show recently ... Here's his mom, Jess Marie to tell ya all about it:
Walker was interviewed by Antjuan Oden for his radio show, Telepathic Opera, on Pirate Cat Radio the other night. Antjuan had him play a couple tunes live over the phone. Walker told me later they were both improvised. If you want to skip straight to his music; the first one is at about 1hr 14min into the show (its pretty straight forward electronic noise) and the second one (fairly structured rock-n-roll improv) is at about 1hr 22min.
The whole show is 2 hours long and quite good with other guests like the swell band, Dust Bowl Revival, and some good dj'ng. Antjuan talks to Walker for a little bit at the beginning and then again after about an hour or so. BTW, Telepathic Opera is one of many great shows on Pirate Cat Radio: http://www.piratecatradio.com/playlist.php?dj=TelepathicOpera
(If you do not know Walker Yancey, then I am sending you this as an introduction. He is my 14 yr old artist/musician son. If you were around mono09pod about a decade ago, he was the little fellow running and jumping about. and now...: http://www.myspace.com/difyrtasgsound)
And Walker's amazing older sister, Eva just graduated from highschool (congrats, Eva!), so on the 4th of July, a lot of us got together down in Montevallo at Clare Vance's to celebrate Eva's brilliance and our country's independence (and all that) ...
It ended up being a fantastically exciting weekend ... once again RYAN and I were reunited, which of course made everything sparkle and shine even brighter ... And Clare's backyard has a gate that leads to a winding path through some magical woods to the most rad swimming creek ever ...
So swimming was the 1st thing on the agenda ... And look! I helped Ryan line this awesome rock with shells ... it sort of looks like a dragon's back ... I dubbed it the Great Wall of Shell ... Ryan took a nice photo of it:
Oh yeah and Carrie and Codi made this uber-cool cake to congratulate Eva ... whoa:
They, along with Dylan also made these really astonishing Japanese-type "creek lanterns" out of warped records and glittery candles and at twilight they set all 10 of them in the water and lit them ... I wish it I could have photographed them, but it was sort of impossible to capture their true beauty, so you'll have to just imagine how stunning the whole thing looked ...
There were also fireworks aplenty along with bottle rocket and roman candle wars ... What would Independence Day be without all that?!
Here's Devin swirling sparks all over the yard:
Speaking of sparklers, here's a pretty epic photo of Ryan:
Here's Nick and Acijro about to make all Hell break loose:
Here's all Hell breaking loose:
And here's Ryan once again making my heart skip a beat ... sigh ...
