Merrillee's Across The Pond Mix

Hey! It's the 2nd to last week of August! Today we have exactly one more month of Summer left!

This month's guest mixtape was created for you by the one and only Merrilee Challiss who is not only an incredible visual artist (check out her awesome work HERE!), but also the owner of the best rock venue in the USA, Bottletree Cafe!

What I dig about this mix so much is that it has this old school feeling to it, like you're lazing around a friend's house and they're putting on record after record and those present are occasionally commenting on the songs and the music floating through the rooms. This compilation's mood seems thick with a soft and relaxing sort of nostalgia. Nice.
.

I asked Merr to describe the playlist and she said:

"Here are some just fun (pop) and doleful songs by British and French people all mixed together....a last hurrah for Summer...."

Short and sweet ...Lovely!
THANKS again for the music, Merr!

As always, ENJOY.

You may download the mix RIGHT HERE.

Here is the track list:

In local B'ham news, watch these protestors make a ruckus at the latest civil rights "immigration law" hearing :

PUSSY RIOT NEWS is NOW

Speaking of hearings and protests, witness Pussy Riot, a Russian feminist punk-rock band based in Moscow. Founded in August 2011, the band stages politically provocative performances about Russian political life in unusual locations, such as Lobnoye Mesto on Red Square, on top of a trolleybus or on a scaffold in the Moscow Metro.

On February 21, 2012, five members of the group staged a performance on the soleas of Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, motivated by their opposition to the Russian President Vladimir Putin and the politics of the Russian Orthodox Church. Their actions were stopped by church security officials. On March 3, after a video (below) of the performance appeared online, three of the group members were arrested and charged with hooliganism.

It's pretty outrageous that these women were arrested. A lot of folks are upset about it and wanting to get them out of jail. Read this Kathleen Hanna interview about Pussy Riot's jailing HERE.

And Pitchfork did an article about "why Pussy Riot matter" HERE.

Furthermore, Peaches made a protest video for Pussy Riot starring The Knife, Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn And John, Nick Zinner, the Hives, Miike Snow, Kate Nash, Light Asylum, Wayne Kramer, Marshall Crenshaw, JD Samson, and others

Here's Pussy Riot's new single

So it turns out that the 3 women arrested were sentenced to 2 years in prison.
Pretty outrageous, huh?!

You can sign a petition to free them HERE

and also Laura Ledbetter sent me the following Amnesty International protest link with another
petition. You can sign it HERE and help give these brave ladies JUSTICE!!!
