1916 (one hundred years ago)



One hundred years ago, these were the top 20 most popular recorded songs.

In America, life was pretty golden, since it was the last year before the country got involved in WWI. In Europe (due to the war) it was , well ... "nasty short and brutish" as Hobbes had said two century's before.

Some interesting things that happened one hundred years ago :

The 1916 Olympic Games were cancelled because of World War I.
Gideon Sundback patented the first modern zipper.
Harry Brearley invented stainless steel.
Charles P. Strite invented the first pop-up bread toaster.
The Ford Model T dominated the automobile market.
Radio programming started to become popular.
Hollywood replaced the East Coast as the center of the movie industry.
Jazz music began to become popular.
