Greg's Retrograde Mix

RETROGRADE

a (1) : having or being motion in a direction contrary to that of the general motion of similar bodies and especially east to west among the stars retrograde for another week> (2) : having or being a direction of rotation or revolution that is clockwise as viewed from the north pole of the sky or a planet retrograde orbit>

b (1) : moving, occurring, or performed in a backward direction (2) : occurring or performed in a direction opposite to the normal or forward direction of conduction or flow

This mixtape was created for by the exquisite Mr. Greg Lowry ... You may remember that Greg presented us this past July with the softly awe-inspiring and emotionally-charged Bed-Sitting Room Mix ...

This time around Greg's mix really reflects the very entertaining and boisterously humorous Bottletree bartender that he is ... This playlist is exciting and nostalgic, wild and unpredictable ... Just perfect for these crisp and chilly early Fall days!

So prepare yourself for the brisk electric-crackly zing of RETRO!!!

Thanks once again, Greg!!!

Well, I don't feel very "wordy" as of late, so I'll instead fall back on photographic evidence, legends and poetry ...

The Harvest Moon was incredible to witness ... Ryan and I celebrated it by eating a Chinese mooncake and drinking beer by moon & candle light ... :
(I didn't take this photo)

This is from one of my moon books ... I dig it:

"One old legend says that on the Moon is everything that was wasted on Earth: misspent time, squandered wealth, broken vows, unanswered prayers, fruitless tears, unfulfilled dreams and intentions, etc. "

Speaking of Harvest Moons and Autumn, Laura recently sent me this lovely poem by John Yeats ... I find that it really rings in the season ...

thanks, Laura!

TO AUTUMN

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,
Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.
